Research and Development- Food Scientist
Location: Chicago area

The R&D Food Scientist will be responsible for new product development and existing product quality improvement. This person will perform Research & Development activities lead to achieving departmental goal, continuously improving quality, developing new product from concepts to commercialization, process, and cost of existing products. Will be in need of close communication across functions not limited to the manufacturing, marketing, and quality teams to deliver right results..

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with a culinary chef to prototype and formula new ideas
Verify cooking instruction and analyze products as needed
Conduct bench top testing and production scale up test and oversee live production runs
Keep research & development kitchen and lab in good condition
Create new product recipes which include formula, process and product specification
Identify, accelerate, execute fast to market flavor approaches to meet project goals and deliver winning taste profiles to consumers
Communicate results of tasks in oral and written form
Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners
Plan and conduct a complete project of significant scope
Results oriented with the ability to manage, balance and prioritize multiple project initiatives in order to meet business objectives
Visit possible co-packing/co-manufacturing companies
Develop new products in meeting cost and quality targets as well as other parameters
Research trends, new ideas, and technologies to develop new products, food manufacturing processes improvement, quality assurance/control improvement and cost savings

SKILL AND EXPERIENCE:
The ability to write commercial recipes
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written
Basic understanding to labeling requirement of USDA and FDA
Functional on Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
Minimum two years experience in food manufacturing industry as R&D
Good organization skills

EDUCATION:
Requires a BS degree in Food Science or a related field. MS degree is preferred.
